Advancing Accountability
ESC is also committed to raising more money from people of color through our individual donor program.
To diversify ESC’s funding to allow for more accountability to those who we serve, The Environmental Support Center commits to diversify our general support sources by considering the following:
-
Membership/dues
-
Fundraising from communities/individuals with which we work
-
Investment strategies
-
Raise more money from people of color through our individual donor program
-
Contributions from constituents
-
Membership Fees
-
Application Fees
To follow the leadership of, and be accountable to, groups in impacted communities in all of our work, a majority of the Board members should represent and be accountable to impacted communities themselves. They should also:
-
Have discussions with impacted communities to define accountability
-
Give lists of potential grantees that reflect the representation of the current Board
-
Have discussions about how we balance the interests and needs of all the parties to whom we are accountable i.e. impacted communities, constituents, funders; and
-
Post an up to date list of our grantees up on our website in order to be more transparent and to take a first step in accountability.
