Capacity-Building Activities TOA Can Help Fund

Because we understand how important this internal work is, you can request funds to hire a consultant to come to your office and work with your staff and board.  Or you can use the funds to pay for the registration for a course or training event.  Or you can use the funds to cover expenses--travel, lodging, and meals--associated with a workshop or seminar in another city.

Here are just a few examples of the types of activities that successful organizations have learned how to manage effectively.

  • Develop communications and marketing plans
  • Learn fundraising skills
  • Attend a training on community organizing and membership programs
  • Have a consultant help two organizations plan to merge together
  • Work with experts to make better use of the Internet
  • Engage in work to become a more representative, inclusive organization
  • Pay for legal expertise
  • Train staff to use computer software
  • Work with a consultant on board and staff development
  • Attend a conference on volunteer management
  • Hire a consultant to help develop financial and personnel systems
